(NASDAQ: SPWR), a leading solar technology and energy service provider, today announced that it has acquired Greenbotics, Inc., a Davis, Calif.-based company that offers panel cleaning products and services for large-scale solar power plants.  With this strategic acquisition, SunPower expands its energy services portfolio for global customers with the SunPower Oasis Power Plant product, especially in markets with challenging dirt and dust environments.  SunPower expects to utilize the robotic technology and the Greenbotics team in conjunction with other product development and large-scale solar field installation projects.

Greenbotics is a leader in optimizing the performance of solar power plants through a cost-effective cleaning process.  For the past two years, the company has used its proprietary CleanFleet™ robots and service offerings to wash hundreds of megawatts of systems in the Southwest and Western U.S.  The robots can be configured for use with a variety of solar panels and mounting types, including fixed-tilt arrays and single-axis trackers and offer a less costly and greener alternative to manual cleaning methods, pressure washers and sprayer trucks.  The robots use under a half a cup of water to clean each panel, which is approximately 90 percent less than traditional cleaning methods, making this solution optimum for solar systems built in desert conditions.

The Greenbotics acquisition is a cash transaction that is accretive to SunPower's results.

California's Community Colleges Go Solar with SunPower

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Community College Facility Coalition Annual Conference in Sacramento today, SunPower Corp. (NASDAQ: SPWR) announced it has installed approximately 20 megawatts (MW) of solar power systems at 12 community college districts in California. The systems are generating enough clean, renewable solar electricity to power more than 4,100 California homes each year, according to calculations provided by the Solar Energy Industries Association. If the colleges were to buy the power from their utilities at current rates, it's estimated the districts are avoiding approximately $5.4 million in annual electricity costs.

SunPower is currently completing construction of its largest community college district solar installation to date. College of the Desert in Palm Desert, Calif. expects to have 3.8 MW of SunPower solar carports operating by the end of the year. The solar power systems are expected to generate up to 66 percent of the total electricity consumed on campus, delivering much-needed savings while supporting the college's commitment to sustainable practices.

stimmt, Du warst ja bisher alleine.....jetzt nicht mehr. Gibt es in good old Germany kein Interesse an dem Unternehmen oder ist es einfach nur uninteressant. Nachdem was ich bisher so gelesen habe, hat es doch wieder eine Zukunft, und die Entwicklung des Kurses in USA lässt den gleichen Schluss zu. Die Zahlen passen auch, ohne wirklich viel Ahnung davon zu haben, aber prinzipiell würde ich die Aussichten als positiv berzeichnen. Aber, teilweise sind ganz schöne Schwankungen drin. Was denkst du, wie geht es weiter?
