AST SpaceMobile (NASDAQ:ASTS) shares jumped more than 15% on Friday trading after the satellite communications company secured a prime contract position tied to a U.S. defense program.
The company was named among firms eligible to compete for work under the Missile Defense Agency's Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense, or SHIELD, program, according to a Thursday press release.

SHIELD is part of the U.S. government's broader Golden Dome strategy, which aims to strengthen layered defenses across air, missile, space, cyber, and hybrid threat domains. The program is designed to support next-generation technologies that can operate across multiple environments.

Deutsche ups AST SpaceMobile target on higher valuation multiple

Deutsche Bank raised the firm’s price target on AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) to $137 from $81 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares. The firm rolled forward its share valuation given the new year and AST’s EBITDA multiple to 20-times from 15. The reason for the increase in Deutsche’s 2030 valuation multiple is that its new forecast exits 2030 with a 60% higher EBITDA growth rate of 40%, the analyst tells investors in a research note. The firm believes AST has the partnerships in place to be successful and scale its direct-to-device business.

AST SpaceMobile, a provider of low-Earth orbit satellite architecture, surged after announcing its upcoming launch schedule.

The company plans to launch its BlueBird 7 commercial communications array in late February, as part of Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin New Glenn-3 mission.

The mission will launch from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station's Launch Complex 36. The exact timing of the launch is still subject to change based on weather conditions and readiness of the New Glenn launcher system, as well as other factors.

The BlueBird 7 is the second satellite in AST SpaceMobile's next-generation constellation. The satellite array provides a space-based cellular broadband network for everyday smartphones. This mission marks the first time AST has utilized Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket.

"This launch advances our mission to bring space-based cellular broadband connectivity to everyday smartphones as we progress towards launching commercial services in 2026," said Scott Wisniewski, president of AST SpaceMobile. "BlueBird 7 moves us closer to delivering a new layer of cellular broadband connectivity for consumers, enterprises, and government customers worldwide.
AST SpaceMobile said that the next generation of BlueBirds are designed to be compatible with all major launch vehicles. The company completed previous missions with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and SpaceX.

AST SpaceMobile extended its winning streak to a third straight session on Thursday, surging 10.28 percent to close at $92.62 apiece, as investors loaded portfolios ahead of the looming launch of its BlueBird 7.

In a social media post by Blue Origin, it said that AST SpaceMobile Inc.’s (NASDAQ:ASTS) next-generation BlueBird 7 satellite is targeted to take off no earlier than Friday, April 10.

BlueBird 7 is one of the two next-generation satellites, next to BlueBird 6. As compared with the latter, the former is nearly 2,400 square meters in size and 3.5 times bigger than BlueBirds 1 to 5. It also features the largest commercial communications array in low Earth orbit.
